Wesley Bohannon - Naked And Savage

Well, that title sounds pretty risque... But no worries, I've just roughed up a demo of my version of The Mission's Naked And Savage. I plan on further tweaks to the song. I'm not happy with the way the initial lyric sounds, kind of clipped on the initial two words. I'd like to modify the drums a bit as the song progresses for more dynamics too. Who knows what else I'll do... I recorded the vocals, backing vocals, guitar and bass. The electronic drum is a Apple loop. The other drums are midi drums that I created as best I could with recording and tweaking.

The Mission - Naked And Savage

I set this blog up quite some time back and never did anything with it... Here's the first post.

After finishing up a project I did to digitize a bunch of 78 rpm records and create CDs, I went back to my LP collection to see what I might want to digitize. I have a lot of late 80's music and after converting Xmal Deutschland Viva, I converted The Mission's second album The First Chapter. While doing this I had the guitar in hand and started picking out the notes for the song Naked And Savage.

It is a pretty straightforward song with two guitar parts. The form is verse-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-verse-chorus. There are slight modifications on what is played on the guitar and an intro to start the song off.

A simple electronic beat starts the song. A single Dm strum comes in, then a single bass D note, then another Dm strum. The acoustic drums start with a simple kick that progresses to an interesting pattern, that sounds like a pseudo-native american drum. The verse guitar progression is an arpeggiated Dm, Dm/F, C, G. Each verse starts with this progression played twice then into the vocals. The vocal parts for Verse1 and Verse4 use a simplified, more subdued chord strum rather than arpeggiating. It also only strums the Dm and C chords, letting these ring through what would be the Dm/F and G chords. This gives some dynamics to the overall song. Verse2 and Verse3 use the arpeggiating pattern over the vocals. The chorus parts are a simple arpeggiated pattern of Bb and A chords. This pattern repeats four times with the fourth being Bb, C that transitions back into the verse progression. The last chorus transitions this way back to verse progression that is played four times into fadeout.

Here's my version of lyrics/tablature for Naked And Savage.
